Hi, I’m Emma. I’m a mum to two daughters, aged six and seven—yes, that is a very close age gap, and if we ever meet, you’re very welcome to hear that story.
I lost my wonderful mum in 2015 after a very short battle with cancer. I miss her every single day. Three years later, I became a mum myself. I knew it would be hard, but it has been even harder than I imagined. Knowing what my mum is missing out on is incredibly painful, and I often just wish she was here to see it.
I initially found support through a grief group while we were living in Dubai, and I often say that group saved my life. To be surrounded by people who truly understand your loss is invaluable.
I discovered The Motherless Mothers last year and was immediately drawn to their Houses of Parliament event. The connection I felt with women in the room—most of whom I’d never met—was incredible. That day, I knew I had to be part of this community.
Since then, I’ve become The Motherless Mothers Ambassador Manager and Volunteer Co-Manager. After hosting an event in Cambridge, I could see just how important this work is, and I was keen to be involved in helping others create the same supportive networks. I’m really looking forward to supporting people in hosting in their own areas, so together we can build the community we all deserve in a club none of us wanted to join.
